Mantras

Mantra are the sacred utterance or sound comprising of syllables or words or group of words. Mantra are the words to regulate the mind, pran shakti or thought process. The impact of mantra are based on the vibration of the sound along with rhythmic breath created in utterance of the sacred mantra. It is believed that thoughts’ vibration also makes impact in mantra. Through mantras, one can obtain Focus, Concentration power and can meditate. It is believed that mantras are a form of energy which leads to attainment of God. It is advised that the Mantra rituals should be done strictly as advised. Keeping purpose of mantra in view, and by repetition of mantras, creates deeper impression on the mental plane, resulting conscious mind becomes saturated with impression. Thereafter, the power of Mantra moves to the subconscious mind.

Each Mantra has its own deity and there are different mantras which have been ascribed to each deity. Of course, each Mantra creates vibrations, when recited . Among the following, either of the deities, could be the deity of one of the mantras. The deities are: Rudar , Mangal ,Garuda, Gandharva ,Yaksha ,Raksh ,Bhujang, Kinner ,Pichach , Bhut ,Deetya , Indra ,Siddh ,Vidyaddhar and Asur.

There are Numerous Mantras practiced. Some very common Mantras are mentioned followings:

This mantra is Shiva Panchakshri which is of five letters and is addressed to Shiva. It is;-

“ॐ नमः शिवाय”

"Om Namah Shivaye".

• This mantra fulfills all desires. All persons without creed and sex can do japa of Mantra. It leads all to moksha. There are no restrictions, like Homa, initiation and time. It always remains pure. The word Shiva is sufficient to destroy all sins.

Narayana Mantra Another important mantra is Narayana Ashtakshari, that is Narayana Mantra of eight letters.

“ॐ नमः नरायणाय”

• This mantra is sought after by all the devotees of Narayana. One is blessed and can achieve anything. This mantra too can be repeated by all.

Ganapati Mantra

“ओ श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं ग्लौ ग` गणपतेय नमः”

• “Om Sharem Hareem Kleem Glaum Gam Ganapateye Namaha” . A simpler mantra is also known as ;- “ओ ग` गणपतये नमः”

“Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha” As is well known, Ganapati is always worshipped first to remove all impediments that may come in the way of performing any act or ceremony. Hence the mantra not only removes all obstacles but also gives success in one's efforts.

Hanuman Mantra Lord Hanuman Ji is an embodiment of Lord Shiva and Vishnu. The mantra for Hanuman ji is;

“ओ हूँ हनुमते रुद्रातमकाए हूँ फुट स्वाहा”

“Om Hanumate Rudratamakaye Hoom Phut Swaha”

There is no favour which he cannot bestow. Hence he is favourite of many as he is easily approachable. He is the embodiment of all good qualities which he freely gives to his devotees.

Saraswati Mantra . Mantra contains ten letters.

“ओ हूँ हनुमते रुद्रातमकाए हूँ फुट स्वाहा”

“Om aim Kleeng saum Saraswatiya Namaha”.

The goddess Saraswati bestows knowledge and without her the whole world would remain steeped in ignorance and dullness of intellect. By the Japa of this Mantra, the Sadhaka attains high proficiency in education and becomes a learned scholar.

Maha mrutyunjaya Mantra

• This is a mantra taken from Rudram:

“स्वाहा ओ त्रयंबकम यजामहे सुगन्धि पुष्टि वर्धनम उर्वारुकमींव् बांधनानमूर्त्यो मृषिय मांमृतात ओ हीं परब्रह्म परमात्मने हरि हर ब्रहोंद्र”

“I bow to the three-eyed, who is fragrant and who promotes nourishment. May he liberate me from death in order to enable me to reach immortality in the same manner as a cucumber is separated from the creeper.”

• This is addressed to Lord Shiva who is the conqueror of death. It protects an individual from accident and indeed from death and keeps off diseases. It bestows wealth and ultimately immortality.
